Obituary 

We deeply condole the death of Prof. J. B. Bhowmick who served the College as a Professor in the depart. of Maths for nearly 35 years. He retired as the Dean of Science on 1st September 1995. He died on 20th May, 2004. He will always be remembered as a man of strong character with love and passion for his students and fellow colleagues. We extend our deep condolences to his bereaved family and pray to God that his soul may rest in peace.

 
Retirement 
Prof. R. Kapadia retired from the services of the College after more than 30 years of illustraeous service in the English Department w.e.f. 1st November 2003.

Prof. Mrs. Praniti Bose retired form the services of the College after nearly 25  years of illustraeous service in the English Department w.e.f. 1st February, 2004.

Persons  
Prof. A. Khan, Directot of Social Work has joined the Univeristy of Belfast for a one year M.Phil. degree in Social Work during September 2003.

Prof. Arghya Banerjee left for U.K. on 1st September, 2003 on a Commonwealth Scholarship for Ph.D. studies.

Miss. Cheril Francis has joined the College as the Director of Social Work to fill the temporary vacency created by the absence of Prof. Khan.

Mr. Vidyarthi Dutta has joined as the librarian w.e.f. 1st Febryary 2004.

Miss Teressa Anthony has been appointed Lady attendant of the Girls Common Room w.e.f. 1st December, 2003.

Entrepreneurs' Cell : An Entrepreneurs' Cell to promote entrepreneurs among students and alumni of not on St. Xavier's but also of other institutions is already in operation in St. Xavier's College under the able guidance of Mr. Arindam Datta.

UNAPCTT : We are also happy to inform that United Nations Asia Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology has opened AN Information Centre in St. Xavier's College in view of encouraging entrepreneurs  for the whole of North East. 

St. Xavier's has applied to department of Science & Technology for opening up  an Entrepreneurs' Development Cell at. St. Xavier's College. We hope to hear a positive response by middle of July.

 

PLACEMENT CELL OPEN !!!

Important news for outgoing students
- a PLACEMENT CELL has been implemented with professional help. Mr. Ranajit Lahiri, Management Consultant, is the placement officer. 
The placement cell operates on Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9am to 1pm in Room-7 of the College. 
 

E V E N T S

We are happy to announce that the State Government has allocated 4 acres of land contiguous to the 5 bighas in the possesion of the College along the by pass. Immediately about Rs. 1 crore will be required to take posession of the land at lease and a roughe estimate of Rs. 15 to 20 crores for the development of the new campus. The second campus is tentatively planned to accomodate post graduate departments and research facilities, the thrust areas proposed being media, Bio Thecnology and IT. The College expects its alumni / alumnae to contribute genorously for the develpoment of the College so that the dream of a Deemed University may become a reality.
