B.Sc. 2008-2009
:
To study B.A., B.Sc.
B.Com. or B.B.A., a candidate must have passed the West
Bengal Board of Higher Secondary Examination or its
equivalent of Plus-2 recognised as equivalent by Calcutta
University passing with at least five recognized
subjects, (UCPW of CBSE is not recognized by Calcutta
University) securing pass marks in each of the five, including
not more than 2 languages. English is compulsory.
Env. Science / Education is not to be included.
As per University requirements, for Admission to BA/BSc
Honours degree the candidate must have (a) 50%
aggregate and a minimum of 45% in the subject taken as Honours,
or (b)55% in the subject chosen for Honours. For
General level a simple pass at the Plus-2 level is
sufficient.
A candidate is not permitted to study a subject at the graduation
level, if he/she studied the subject at the Class XII level and
did not pass in the subject at the Class XII level.
Students passing the GCE examination of the UK
are
eligible for admission if they have passed with 2 ‘A’ Levels
and 3 ‘O’ levels. Only subjects passed at A-level can be taken
for Honours.
For Computer Science Honours or General,
a
candidate must have passed Physics with Mathematics at
the 10+2 level.
For Economics Honours,
a candidate should have passed class XII with pure
mathematics as a subject. Business mathematics is not accepted
for Economics honours.

Mathematics
Honours:
with any one of the five elective combinations: a. Physics
and Statistics,
b.
Physics and Computer Science, c. Physics and Chemistry, d.
Statistics and Computer Science, and e. Statistics and
Economics.
2. B.Sc. Physics Honours:
with Mathematics (compulsory elective), and choosing the second
elective from among: Chemistry, Computer Science.
3. B.Sc. Chemistry Honours:
with Mathematics
(compulsory elective), and selecting the second elective from
among Physics or Microbiology.
4. B.Sc. Statistics Honours:
with
Mathematics (compulsory elective), and selecting the second
elective from among Computer Science or Economics.
5. B.Sc. Computer
Science Honours:
with Mathematics and Physics as the electives.
6. B.Sc. Economics Honours:
with Mathematics
(compulsory elective), and selecting the second from among
Statistics or Political Science.
7. B.Sc. Microbiology Honours:
Chemistry
(compulsory) and selecting the second from among Physics or Comp
science).
8.For
B.Sc. with Mass communication and
Videography, as MAJOR VOCATIONAL, Film Studies is
compulsory for all. A candidate is to choose the second elective
from among the following subjects:

or Sociology or Economics.

B.Sc General Course:
Group I
(with
Maths): Of the three
electives, Mathematics is compulsory. For the other two
electives, one may opt for one of the following combinations: 1.
Physics and Chemistry, 2. Physics
and Computer Science, 3. Chemistry and Microbiology.
Group II:
(Without Maths): Physics, Chemistry
and Microbiology.
10. M.Sc (5 yr, integrated, no lateral
movement after 3 yrs) Biotechnology. (Details of qualifying
subjects will be announced soon) .

GENERAL SUBJECTS WITH LIMITED SEATS
A. Choice of
STATISTICS / JOURNALISM & MASS COMMUNICATION as General
Subject.

At the
time of admission, confirmed allocation is not possible.

Some
other suitable subject will have to be taken provisionally.
·
Preference will be noted.
·
After
completion of admission of admission process a merit list will
be prepared, for those candidates who have given preference for
STATISTICS / JOURNALISM & MASS COMMUNICATION.
·
Allocation will be made according the merit list, subject to
availability of seats.
·
In case
of selection, confirmed allocation will be made for STATISTICS /
MICROBIOLOGY / JOURNALISM.
& MASS
COMMUNICATION Otherwise the provisionally allocated subject will
be confirmed as the General subject. This will be completed by
15-07-2008.
B. Choice of Modern Indian Language :
In case the candidate had Bengali / Hindi at XII level and the
candidate's mother tongue is Bengali / Hindi, the same language
will have to chosen in college. Otherwise, Alternative English
will have to be chosen.
Selection
procedure :
There may be direct admission on
the basis of marks in 10+2 for B.Sc. Honours in Physics,
Chemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology & M.Sc. (integrated) in
Biotechnology. The details of direct admission will be announced
later. Rest of the students who do not qualify for direct
admission will be selected on the basis of their marks in 10+2.
For Computer Science
Honours and Mass Communication there will be an admission test
and the selection is done on the basis of merit as well as
admission test marks.

For all other B.Sc.
Honours and General courses, the selection is done on the basis
of marks obtained in the previous qualifying examination.
