XADAM is a performing arts body, participating actively in various
cultural
events throughout the year. Since its inception, student members of Xadam have
been doing numerous cultural activities and performances both inside and outside
the college. They have won many accolades from audience and press and many
prizes in intercollegiate competitions. Xadam actively promotes the various
disciplines of the rich Indian heritage, from classical dances, contemporary
dance forms, folk dances, rabindra nritya, along with Hindustani and Carnatic
classical vocal, rabindrasangeet, najrulgeeti, loksangeet, baulgeeti to bangla
rock. It also strives for building a bridge between cross cultural dance and
music forms through innovative contemporary presentations. XADAM through its
activities envisages building up artistic performance capabilities par
excellence and all round development of personality of the students. The student
members undergo hours of rigorous practice sessions several times a week after
their class hours. As many as 500 students perform in various cultural
programmes in a given year. The level and number of participation has gone up
dramatically since the last two years.
Golden Jubilee Celebrations of SXCAA: 3RD January 2010....a team of 35
students performed on the song 'Sheemar Majhe Asheem Tumi'... the song which
became the theme song for the 150 yrs of St. Xaviers.
Closing Ceremony of 150 years: 16th January 2010 ... the day marked the
pinnacle of celebrations of the 150th year with the Honour able Prime Minister
of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh gracing the occasion with his presence. A team of
80 students sang 'sheemar majhe aseem tumi; on the occasion as part of the
inaugural ceremony.
Convocation and Valedictory 2010: 17th January 2010 ... a team of 40 students
sang the National Anthem on this day with Home Minister, P. Chidambaram gracing
the occasion as Chief Guest.
Inter-religious Prayer Service: 18th January 2010 ... student members of
XADAM were actively informed in making this unique programme a great success.
The programme was a joint effort of the college and the school. Students of the
college performed several songs and 20 minute ballet depiction the five elements
of nature, followed by an arti dance, accompanied by live music and choir.
Holy Mass: 19th January 2010 ... live choir and group dancers performed to
the entry and exit processions and the arti of the holy mass. The student
members were 70 in number on this occasion.
Cultural Day: 21st January 2010 .... this was a great day for XADAM members.
They presented an hour and half long performance comprising of the following
items.
'Yatra'... a musical journey performed by an ensemble of 15 musicians and 10
vocals.
Sheemar majhe asheem tumi'... group dance choreography.
'Prahar'... a ballet with live music, comprising of chants, chaturaang and
darbari.
Inauguration of XCS fest 2010... an inaugural song was presented by students
of Xadam in the inaugural ceremony of XCS.
Auditions for the Night School children: 15th May 2010 ... in 2011 the Night
School Titli, run by St. Xavier's will celebrate 50 years. An audition was
conducted to select talented and interested children who will be trained to
present a cultural on this forthcoming event.
CURRENT SEMESTER JULY 2010-JUNE 2011
Inauguration day: student members of XADAM presented a five minute
performance for all the departments of SXC on July 1st 2010.
XADAM Auditions: were held on 12th July 2010 in which more than 300 students
appeared.
Feast of Ignatius Loyola: 31st July 2010 in which XADAM presented its choir
and dance group.
Independence Day 2010: student members of XADAM enthralled the audience with
vocal and dance presentations.
Teachers' Day 2010: the day was celebrated on 4th September and included a
XADAM presentation of 15 minutes
Hindi Literary Society presented Hindi Divas on 17th Sept in which student
members of XADAM performed dandia.
FIRST XADAM FEST ... GOONJ 2010 XADAM organized a day long fest "GOONJ 2010"
ON 8TH October 2010. The events included inter college dance and vocal
competitions and inter-departmental instrumental completions. The day began with
Reverend Father Principal Dr. John Felix Raj and Father Vice-principal Jimmy
Keepuram along with Chief Guest Sukalyan Bhattacharya, an eminent
dancer-choreographer inauguration the event with inspiring words and lighting of
the lamp. The Principal then declared Goonj 2010 open. The inauguration ceremony
ended with a dance performance by the students of the department of performing
arts.
The inter college competitions continued followed by the staging of a short
drama by the staging of a short drama by the students of the Hindi Literary
Society. Student members of XADAM presented a wonderful fusion dance accompanied
by a live band with a rapper giving the presentation a unique edge. Then
followed a Vocal presentation by the lead vocalists of the XADAM choir.
The evening ended with a stellar performance of Rabindranath Tagore's dance
drama ... TASHER DESH. A total of 250 students participated in the production in
various capacities. The posters, the background, the headdresses of dancers and
the decoration of the auditorium was done by the team of 1st year students of
the Animation department who worked for weeks in advance to get the same ready.

getting sponsorships, publicity and organizing the whole event. The performers
included a team of 50 dancers, 50 singers, 10 instrumentalists and 20 narrators.
Prof. Zaid Al Basset of the sociology department was the sutradhaar or the main
narrator as well as the master of ceremony for the whole day. The Principal,
Vice-principal and Rector along with eminent dancer-choreographer and President
of the West Bengal Federation of Dance, Shri Chandrodaya Ghosh graced the
occasion with their presence.
Upcoming Events:
These include performances in the SXC mass on 3rd December 2010, Christmas
Celebration Programme on 21st December 2010, sports Day 2011, and Valedictory
Day 2011, Xavotsav 2011 Inauguration etc. XADAM will also be conduction several
workshops on the dance forms such as Jazz, Salsa etc. in January 2011.
