BENGALI LITERARY SOCIETY
Subhra Sankha Bose (Secretary)
Bengali Literary
Society, as the name itself suggest, is the platform to express, imbibe and
showcase the knowledge, we aspire to acquire and so deeply cherish, all through
the musical language, of Bengali. This is the society, originally meant for the
Bengalis mainly, in the college, but gradually, as our larger society, this
society has also grown all across the college, by attracting the non-bongs as
well, and enabling it to expand among the masses. Now, as the need of the hour,
this 80 years old society should always look forward to change itself in a new
outlook, to best suit its 21st century members’ mentality, just like the Bengali
Culture, literature and overall community is undergoing a change as an
after-effect of globalisation. And that’s what, we, the present team of flag
bearers, are up to. Some events that we have already organised this year are:
06/09/2010 – BLS Inaugural Program successfully organized. Honorary Principal
Rev Fr. Felix Raj inaugurated the forward march of BLS for this year by lighting
the Diyas. Other distinguished persons on the Dias were BLS President Prof Rajiv
Chowdhury; SXC Alumni Secretary Mr. Snehasish Sur; Famous Music Director and
Composer Mr. Debojyoti Mishra, as the Chief Guest. The Guest of Honour for that
event included, poet Mrs. Krishna Bosu, Mr. Jagannath Bosu & Mrs. Urmimala Bosu.
The college students performed various events and truly rocked the show.
29/09/2010 – BLS participated in the All Societies’ Exhibition, organized by
college, with shinning glory.
09/10/2010 – Bengali Literary Society organized an intra college competition
comprising of events, such as art and craft, essay writing, non-gas cooking,
extempore, antakshari, drawing and recitation, before the Pujas and named it
aptly, AGOMONI. The judges included The Respective Deans of BCom Morning and
BCom Evening along with various distinguished professors. Honorary Principal Rev
Fr. Felix Raj graced the occasion with his presence and gave away the prizes.
Over 250 students participated to make it a big success.
Apart from the above mentioned events, we are also planning for a magazine
launch, which will not only put forward the works of the students, but also the
faculty members and the non-teaching staffs. Then in the month of February, we
have a scheduled Inter College Fest, which will surely be a thing to look
forward, for the entire college. All these are possible, only because of the
joint efforts of all the departments, who have all merged into this year’s
working committee. This year, the entire team is highly motivated and energetic
to prove the true mettle of BLS. However, looking beyond the efforts of the
team, we all will only be further privileged and honoured, to get the due
recognition and acceptability from all the spheres of the college that it so
truly deserves. And this in-turn will only enable and motivate us to work for a
better and brighter future, of our beloved society – The Bengali Literary
Society, or The BLS, as it is lovingly called.
