And this Knowledge is what the English Academy tries to bestow among its
students to light up that inner creative light which will show them their path
in their literary pursuits. The English Academy, under the leadership of
Dr. Chandrani Biswas, has always striven to showcase the varied literary talent
that reside in the students of St. Xavier's College. Its only goal has been to
open up a platform where the students can perform to their literary best. And
the academy has moved from strength to strength in meeting with its own
motivation to better the standards of literary genius.

College Choir |
On a cold winter's evening on the seventeenth of December, the St. Xavier's
College auditorium was drowned in the melody of the yuletide spirit with the
College Choir singing 'O Come all ye Faithful', ushering in the essence of
Christmas. Then followed hymns and carols like 'Ode To Joy', 'Joy To The World'
and 'Silent Night' along with Schubert's 'Ave Maria'.

Science Association |
The St. Xavier's College Science Association (SXCSA), after a long hiatus,
has now burst forth in the college society scene in a big way. It had long been
in a state of dormancy but now, after a year has gone by, we are one of the most
prominent associations in the college, fully up and running It has been an
extremely self enriching and memorable experience so far, for all who are
associated with SXCSA.

Society

The Xaverian Theatrical Society or XTS is a vibrant and colourful society
bringing out hidden talent from out students. We have revolutionized the art of
performing bilingual plays with song and dance and on-stage costume changes. XTS
is headed by Prof. Asis Siddhanta and the ex-Secretary, Soumaya Mukherjee and
the present Secretary, Arya Gupta, have worked a lot to improve this
association.

Commerce Society |
"It was a sparkling dawn. The winds of change were blowing and the sky was no
less blue. The sea couldn't wash away a particular trail on the sand... On
following it, I saw a child far down on the shore. The child was crawling on his
knees while looking up at the sky. And then, the sand and I bore testimony to a
spectacle. The child reached deep and pushed hard and then.... he stood on his
feet Raising his hands in 'eclat, he viewed the world in a new light....soon it
would be time to run."

Leadership Training Service |
The LTS movement was started in year 1959, in Goethal's Memorial School,
Darjeeling, by a group of students. The three pioneer members joined St.
Xavier's for their graduation and propagated LTS in the college. The first
national centre of LTS was in St. Xavier's, till 1979. The movement remained
active till 1995, since then in the absence of a guide it was inactive.

Sports |
"All Work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." At St. Xavier's College, the
Sports Department has inculcated the spirit of sportsmanship in every Xaverian.
Blessed with two lush green fields, the college activities comprises of sports
like Basket Ball, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Squash, Aquatics and Volleyball
among Others.

Swar-The Women's Cell |
On 8th of March, 2008, the members of the Women's Cell celebrated the Women's
Day in St. Xavier's College auditorium. The programme was inaugurated by the
Principal Fr. P. C. Mathew, Vice Principal A. C. Gomes, the Head of the
Committee Panchali Sen, Father Felix Raj and other esteemed dignitaries. The
presence and participation of the teachers and students from all other
departments alike made the event a greater success than anticipated.
