SPORTS ASSOCIATION |
Be it character building, developing managerial skills or simply
understanding the value of belonging, participating and achieving, the students
of St. Xavier’s College manifested these exemplary qualities with great aplomb
this year. Their achievements have been manifold and the following is a
summation of their effort. A packed calendar saw our nineteen Inter Department
and Open Tournaments being conducted year round. College teams participated in a
number of Calcutta University Inter College Tournaments and came back with a

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (N.C.C.)

The
National Cadet Corps was established in the year 1949. NCC as an
organizing is contributing towards development of the youth in
the country. It is administered by The Ministry of Defense,
Govt. of India. The motto of NCC is "UNITY AND DISCIPLINE".
Training activities in NCC consists of the basic training of the
regular armed forces provided throughout the educational year
every Sunday starting from the month of July to March for 2
years. NCC offers a specialized course which includes the
practical training of weapon handling, drill, military tactics,
civil defense, first aid etc. Other activities include adventure
training like parasailing, trekking, cycle expedition etc. NCC
also participates in social activities like blood donation, tree
plantation, medical aid camps, natural calamity relief etc. More...

PLACEMENT CELL
|
The job scenario today is facing the onslaught of ground breaking competition
from all fields. Employment into good companies and organisations has become a
daunting task. Therefore for the benefit of its students preparing to face the
job market, the St. Xavier’s College Placement Cell has risen to the occasion
and has successfully aided in providing opportunities and employment to its

HOSTEL REPORT
|
Hostel accommodations are available for the two Boys Hostels. One of them is
in Park Street with a total capacity of 180 students. The second one is just
10 minutes away from the College, at 219/1 J. C. Bose Road. It can
accommodate around 70 students.

THE CENTRAL
LIBRARY
|
The Library provides services to the students, staffs, research scholars,
faculty members and Fathers of the college through an automated mode by using
LIBSYS 4 (Release 5.0) software. The catalogue-search and circulation systems
are fully automated at present. Search for any document can be made through
Online-Public-Access-Catalogue (OPAC) and the circulation system is
barcode-based. The Web-OPAC will be started shortly.

CAREER ORIENTED PROGRAMME
|
St. Xavier’s College, first autonomous college under Calcutta University, has
launched eight certificate / diploma courses under its career-oriented
programmes. Participants of these courses comprise the students of St. Xavier’s
College and the students of some other institutions. Also working professionals
can join such courses for their skill enhancement. Industrial training / project
has been made compulsory for the students of all these courses. Classes for
these career-oriented courses are held in the evening.

This is no doubt, an auspicious year for all of us as we are celebrating 150
years of our Alma Mater as well as 25 years of our Alumni Association.
We are fortunate that our Alma Mater has been involving its alumni/ae in many
of the programmes of the College. The joint effort of the Jesuit priests,
professors, non teaching staff and the past and present students, has resulted

All-India Student Movement with a membership of 35,000
students in 300 units in 12 States. It is affiliated to
the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS),
Pax Romana, and has its National office in Chennai - AICUF

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL WORK AND NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

The primary objective of the
department is to reach out to the underprivileged and marginalized sections of
society and bring about a desired change in the present scenario. It brings the
students together for a greater cause and to create a sense of social awareness
amongst them. It establishes a constructive linkage between the campus and the
community at large. The motto of NSS “Not Me but You” enhances the essence of
democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service in society. Our main
endeavour is to fulfill the vision and mission of our college that is ‘to create

EDUCATION MULTIMEDIA RESEARCH
CENTRE

Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), St.
Xavier's College, Calcutta was established in 1986 for
producing undergraduate educational television
programmes for the Countrywide Classroom of the
Government of India. The Centre was rechristened as
Educational Multimedia Research Centre in 2004 and in
addition to producing television programmes it also
produces e-content.

AUDITORIUM
|
The stage has always been
held in great honour at St. Xavier's. For an educational institution an
auditorium is not just a venue for school and college events, or merely a
meeting place, it is a space where a corporation of students and scholars
congregate ---- to celebrate, to debate, to discuss and sometimes even to
mourn collectively.

|
The canteen itself is the candid informal yardstick of evaluating the pulse
of any campus. St. Xavier's is no exception to this cult. Anyone who enters
our canteen can feel the exuberance of our college students.

INTER COLLEGE FESTS
|
No one may represent St. Xavier's College in Inter
College fests unless the section is approved by the
Prof-in-charge/President of Xadam (for Music & Dance),
the Debating Society (for Debate & Quiz) and the XTS
(for Drama). For Easy Competitions the approval will
be given by the Professors-in-charge of the respective
language Societies (BLS, HLS and ELS). For sports and
games the approval must come from the Director of
Sports. Those who represent the college without the
above mentioned approval may face serious disciplinary
action. |
