FINE ARTS SOCIETY
Shreya Das (Secretary)
VISION:
The Fine Arts Society is committed to enriching the cultural life of the
student community. It believes that education cannot be limited to academic and
intellectual pursuit, and that the educational process is enlarged and enriched
only when the student is encouraged to expand his interests and horizons. For
this reason, the Fine Arts Society concerns itself primarily with organizing and
hosting events in painting, photography, and western contemporary and classical
music.
MISSION:
The Society proactively involves students to not only participate in but also
conceptualize, plan, organize, and raise funding for the events. So the Society
provides a platform for students to exhibit and stage their talent and also
encourages them to work independently and learn the basics of professional
organizational and management techniques. Indeed the Society commits itself to
achieving the highest professional standards in the events, competitions and
concerts it hosts.
ORGANIZATION:
The Fine Arts Society is headed by a President (a professor appointed to the
post) and run by a Secretary who is appointed by the President. The Secretary is
usually a third year student since by the time students have reached third year
they have achieved a degree of maturity. In general the Secretary is aided by a
second year student who works as an unofficial deputy-secretary who learns the
ropes and prepares for his/ her duties when and if he/ she is nominated as
Secretary in the third year. In this way professional continuity is ensured so
that there is a seamless transition from one secretary to another.
REPORT:
“Fine art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go
together.” -John Ruskin.
This is what we the
members of the Fine Arts Society truly believe in. over the past few years the
fine arts society has been putting together two major events each year: The
Photography and Painting Competition and the much awaited Western Music Concert.
Sometimes, we also bring in a variation by organizing a Western Classical Music
Concert instead of the usual
These events are greeted with a lot of enthusiasm as students from all
departments throng the auditorium for auditions. In the previous years, the
western music concert has received live coverage while eminent people from
related fields have obliged us by judging our photography competition.
This year we are hosting the Western Music Concert which has already happened on
the 4th of October 2010 in the college auditorium. The concert was a huge
success, not unlike all the previous years. What makes this experience truly
enjoyable and inspiring is the support we get from the audience and the
performers alike. This would be the most opportune moment to thank all the
volunteers and especially Professor Da Sailva and professor Mirza for their
unparalleled support. The society plans on organizing the Photography
Competition or a western classical music concert on popular request) some time
early next semester.
However, the Fine Arts Society is not confined only within these events. Though
the Western Music Concert and Photography Competition have become our regulars,
the society is always working together, giving birth to new ideas, each one more
innovative than the other. In the years to come, we hope to make our dreams a
reality and bring to the students of the college a wide variety of events to
choose from, which will accommodate talents from every field. This year, once
again, we hope to achieve the same amount of success (if not more) as we have in
the previous years.
FUTURE PLANS:
- The Annual Photography Competition will be held on November 11, 2011.
- The Western music concert is planned for February, 2012 on a much larger
scale. The Society hopes to open up the event to musicians from other
universities and colleges.
- Future plans include workshops on music, photography, painting.
