FINE ARTS SOCIETY
Sree Sen
Secretary, 2009-2010
The Fine Arts Society is one of those cultural organizations which actively
engage the students of St. Xavier’s college in various activities throughout the
year. With members from all departments of the college-B. Com morning and
evening, B.A. as well as B. Sc, this society holds various events in order to
encourage and promote the latent talent of the students. The society organised
two major concerts in the year 2008-09.The western music concert of 2008
witnessed an unprecedented response from the students. After grilling auditions,
the finalists then performed in a packed auditorium.
Following the success of this venture which revealed the musical aptitude
among many of the Xaverians, the Fine Arts Society organised a western classical
music concert. This event was highly appreciated by the authorities and students
of the college. A rare endeavour, ably handled by the former secretary, Ashwika
Kapoor, this concert was a path breaking event that set new standards in this
college for musical performances. The previous year’s overwhelming response to
this event resulted in the western musical concert of 2009 which had a similar
approach. However, there was more participation by the students, fresh faces on
stage and greater enthusiasm. Other events lined up for the year include
exhibitions and competitions in art and photography.
This society believes in giving students an opportunity to exhibit their
creativity in different cultural fields. The events are aimed at giving them a
much needed platform to project and assess their works and achievements. The
Fine Arts Society, as an integral part of the college, will continue its
commitment to promote the cultural talents of the students in the years to come.
