Xavierian Theatrical Society

"The theatre, which is in no thing, but makes use of everything - gestures, sounds, words, screams, light, darkness - rediscovers itself at precisely the point where the mind requires a language to express its manifestations. To break through language in order to touch life is to create or recreate the theatre." - Antonin Artaud

The Xaverian Theatrical Society or XTS is a vibrant and colourful society bringing out hidden talent from out students. We have revolutionized the art of performing bilingual plays with song and dance and on-stage costume changes. XTS is headed by Prof. Asis Siddhanta and the ex-Secretary, Soumaya Mukherjee and the present Secretary, Arya Gupta, have worked a lot to improve this association.

Our achievements during the past year or so include :

  • In 2007, we took part in "Umang" - the Annual Cultural of The Bhawanipur Education Society College and secured 1st position in the English One Act Play and came in 2nd in the Hindi One Act Play.
  • On the 8th of March 2008 i.e. Women's Day, we organized an act specially dedicated to women. The play was called "Ulto Puran" and was enacted in our college auditorium.
  • Following this we took part in "Pratichhobi". A theatre festival organized by Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta from the 2nd to the 4th of April 2008.
  • On June 28th 2008, a group performed at the 'National Conference on Environmental Pollution of Biosphere and Its Management'. The aim of the drama was to highlight the power of nature and was called "Green Revolution".
  • In 2009, we plan to have an Inter Departmental Drama Festival followed by an Inter College Festival to celebrate the occasion of 150 years of our esteemed institution.
