PAPER –I: Conceptual Background of Human Rights and Duties

  1. Rights : inherent, inalienable, universal, indivisible
  2. Values : Dignity, liberty, equality, justice, unity in diversity
  3. Need for balance between Rights and Duties, Freedom and Responsibility
  4. Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
  5. Civil and Political Rights
  6. Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

PAPER – II: Specific Human Rights

  1. Major Human Rights Conventions.
  2. Right to self determination
  3. Right to development: Food, Shelter and Health
  4. International Organizations for protection of Human Rights
    1. Un Bodies
    2. American System

PAPER – III: Human Rights of Groups

  1. Women’s Rights
  2. Rights of the Child
  3. Rights of People belonging to Minorities
  4. Rights of Refugees and Migrant Workers
  5. Indigenous People and Human Rights
  6. Human Rights and Environment

PAPER – IV: Human Rights Enforcement

  1. Role of Judiciary
  2. Human rights Commissions: National, State and other Commissions
  3. Human Rights Movement
  4. Human Rights in Everyday life (Consumer Protection Rights and Human Rights & Police)

Application forms may be downloaded from the website and completed application form (along with two passport sized photographs and attested photocopy of the marksheet of the qualifying examination) is to be submitted at Room No. 7 by paying a registration fee of Rs. 100/-. Eligible candidates may get direct admission subject to the fulfillment of norms of norms.

PAYMENT OF FEES

The course fee is to be paid at the time of admission. Fees are to be paid at the counter of the Syndicate Bank on the college premises from 9 A.M. till 1 P.M. during weekdays and from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. on Saturdays. Fees may also be paid by Demand Draft in favour of “St. Xavier’s College” payable at Kolkata.
