THE PLACEMENT CELL

The job scenario today is facing the onslaught of ground breaking competition from all fields. Employment into good companies and organisations has become a daunting task. Therefore for the benefit of its students preparing to face the job market, the St. Xavier’s College Placement Cell has risen to the occasion and has successfully aided in providing opportunities and employment to its outgoing students.

The Cell, headed by Mr. Aniruddha Sinha, consists of a Students’ Committee comprising of students from the Arts, Science and Commerce departments, both from the second as well as the third years. It helps form an integral link between the students and the corporate organizations by conducting negotiations with different corporate houses and companies, inviting them to the college for a rigorous recruitment process complete with written examinations, group discussions and numerous rounds of interviews.

The Students’ Committee has been formed for the first time this year and a completely new initiative is being undertaken to provide for adequate employment opportunities for the outgoing students. Opportunities for internships are also being looked into. Companies have always found suitable and good candidates from different departments of our college for whatever job profiles they have provided the cell with. Companies like Google India, Deloitte, Tata Consultancies, Reliance Group, Mackenzie, UBS, ABP Group, Wipro, Ernst and Young and many other well established companies have recruited from our college in the past. Advertising agencies, management concerns, consultancies, BPOs, media houses are some of the organizations that regularly visit the college for recruitment purposes.

As a part of the streamlining process that we have undertaken, a special Placement Cell blog has been created solely for the purpose of providing relevant information regarding the cell to the interested students. The placement cell also has a brochure which is sent to every company that may be interested in recruiting from the pool of students in St Xavier’s. It also serves as a source of relevant feedback from these companies. The creation of a placement policy is also a positive step in the process of a more organized placement process.

Over the next semester, we look to make the placement cell more accessible to both companies as well as students by automating a number of processes and taking it online. We are also planning to organise workshops on personality development, resume writing, stress and time management, interviews and group discussions in order to help students hone and develop their skills. They will thus be able to face the competitive job world and stand out in the crowd confidently.

With the relentless support of the staff and the students associated with the placement cell and Rev. Dr. Fr. Felix Raj, S.J. at the helm, we strive to reach a step closer to our ultimate goal of 100% placements for our students.
