Introduction
St.
Xavier’s College, with its pioneering legacy, was the first educational
institution of the city to think in terms of introducing Computer Studies.
Instead of introducing Computer Science at the undergraduate level, it was
thought wiser to initially offer various courses in Computer Studies under
the aegis of what we call today St. Xavier’s Computer Centre.
St. Xavier' Computer Centre (SXCC) was inaugurated, on 4th November, 1985
on the occasion of the 125th Anniversary of the College. It was
sponsored by a generous well wisher of the College.
SXCC was originally meant to cater to only the students of the college.
However, today it is open to all and offers various long term and short
term courses to satisfy the need of various students and professionals.
The Computer Centre has been granted Full Accreditation by the DOEACC
Society, Govt. of India, to conduct the "O" Level Computer
Course for a period of five years from 12-04-96 and has been granted the
Accreditation provisionally for three years to conduct the "A"
Level Computer Course from 28-11-96.
A non profit academic institution, SXCC has always concern for the under-privileged sections of the society. In line with the College’s policy SXCC
had made its policy to cater specially to the under-privileged students.
Concessions in fees is provided to the backward class and economically
backward students to encourage such students to come up to the present
professional requirements. |
