Bachelor’s degree program in Multimedia and Animation
(Four Years)
[Under University of
Calcutta]
Animation department was first established in St. Xavier's
College (Autonomous) Kolkata, in the year of 2007, in
collaboration with Toonskool Advanced Animation Academy,
Bangalore.
After thinking about the potentiality of this course St.
Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata wanted to start an
animation department, exclusively under its own super-vision.
Hence, to start afresh, including the design of the syllabus,
St. Xavier's (Autonomous) Kolkata was waiting for the approval
from Calcutta University. After major inspection by Calcutta
University we were able to start an UGC recognized 4-year design
course named B.M.M (Bachelor in Multimedia with specialization
in Animation). An admission test was conducted in which 140
students appeared, out of which 45 students qualified and now
they are a part of the Xaverian family. Last two remaining
batches of Toonskool, the 4th and 6th semesters are yet to
complete their course.
St. Xavier's College (Autonomous) Kolkata is the first
college in Eastern India to provide a course which revolves
around art, graphic designing, communication designing, film
making and all the aspects of film making.
Already a short film by three of our students was featured at
16th, KOLKATA FILM FESTIVAL. We are hoping that this course
would prepare individuals who in turn would make great
achievements in future.

Globally there is a continuing increase in companies who are in
need of capable professional designers who can embrace design,

"The indispensable first step to getting the
things you want out of life is this: Decide what you want." |

I decided to give it a try. And so did many
others....and TRUST me, people are REALLY happy that they
opted for this course, i.e-Bachelor's in Multi-Media, with
specialization in animation, under Calcutta University. It's
one of the youngest department of the St Xaviers' College
(Autonomous) Kolkata, with a 4 years degree course. |

“Many people including my parents were
scared of what this course would be like. Whether it will
fetch me a good job in future. Whether at all it would
be...worth ‘it!’ But trust me...it WAS worth it. Right from
'Animation' to 'Photography'...from 'story-telling' to
'film-making'...from 'canvas painting' to 'creating graphic
eye candies"....it involves, it ALL!” |
| |
|
| - |
And this course has INDEED made ALL of us
believe that...from small beginnings, come great things. |

A class of 45 students, sprawled all across
the floor wouldn't be something many would call a
"class-room-teaching", in THIS country.
A batch of students, laughing and "talking concepts"...and
"sketching scratches"...while the rest of the
sleep-deprived-college-students keep studying...wouldn't be
something that many would call..."the exam time", in THIS
country.
And making sketched apples, "realistic" with
Photo-shop...DEFINITELY wouldn't be something many would
call an "exam", in THIS country!
...Yet, that is EXACTLY...what IT is. |

This department has great potential in the
creative field. A film by three of our students-Sayantan,
Joydeep and Soumyaroop, was selected for Kolkata Film
Festtival,2010.And we are MADE to believe that the greatest
pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.

You might say, Our main motto is-"Never take
life seriously.Because in the end nobody gets out alive
anyway."...so we are taught to EXPLORE life...EXAGGERATE
life...and EXPRESS life through our creations...! |
