History & Achievement in brief
The Mass Communication & Videography (MCV)
department was founded in 1996. This course is aimed at creating
media professionals who would emerge as experts with further
specialization. The MCV curricula combines media theory with
hands on training by a faculty of qualified media theoreticians
and media professionals.
Since 2006 (autonomy), the MCV dept. has
steadily worked towards formulating a holistic syllabus for the
taught course keeping the pressing needs of ‘audio- visual’
literacy in the changing times in mind. As Rev. Gaston Roberge
S.J., a senior faculty member says, “The department aims
to provide a milieu where the students can become not just
passive consumers but also producers of media content. We would
like the student to become a prosumer.”
The members of alumni are doing exemplary
work in their respective fields. Some have gone on to pursue
their master’s degree in various premier mass communication
institutes. Some students have opted for specialized technical
courses at National film institutes, while others have found
ready employment in electronic media.
Three years full-time B. Sc. (Major) in Mass Communication and Videography (MCV,
divided into six semesters) under University of Calcutta with Film Studies as
one of the compulsory elective subjects.
Total students strength at present is 115 in all three batches.
The Teacher Student ratio in the department is 1 : 13
