NIHIL ULTRA: Nothing Beyond

Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)

I am an entrepreneur.
I create.
I take risks.
I live my passion.

We believe that entrepreneurship is the key that can unlock India’s latent inventive potential. It will not only push India to the forefront of the world but also help raise the quality of life in the country. While ‘Start-up’ is growing to be one of the business world’s biggest buzz words, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata envisions a time, when youth will look up to the new generation of CEO’s and entrepreneurs as their modern day rock stars.

With this belief, the Entrepreneurship Development Cell, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata targets to help in the development of India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by enabling easy and efficient interaction between its major components spanning students, working professionals, aspiring and existing entrepreneurs, mentors, angel investors, venture capital firms and corporate officials through initiatives like interactive sessions, competitions, conferences et al.

PRISM

Prism is the representation of education in one’s life. Before a person receives education, he has a single ray of imagination and thought. Education makes a man gain a multifaceted thought process and dimension to his personality, in the same way that a prism brings out the seven colours from a single ray of white light.

Believing in this philosophy, the Cell launched a two day simulation event for the first year students of the college with 400 participants, with the aim to throw light on the differences between school life and the life at college and real world.

Workshops by EDC

"The best way of learning about anything is by doing.”
In the recently conducted workshops by EDC, the students learned about robotics, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, how to start up and different techniques of marketing and sales. The entire learning process required the students to work on their devices to gain hand on experience.

Over the past year, we conducted several workshops such as Zero to One by Mr. Aswini Bajaj, Marketing 101 by Mr. Nishant Manchanda and Data Sutram by Mr. Sauvik Bannerjee.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp

With a vision of promoting the startup culture among the youth in Eastern India, EAC was a three-day curriculum for young entrepreneurs, which included a series of workshops, mentoring sessions and an excursion to provide the best exposure to the budding startups.

With a registration of up to 25 startups, the seven best startups were selected based on their B-Plans, to participate in the inaugural edition of EAC. Since EAC was designed to provide invaluable guidance crucial for startups in their nascent stage, the selected startups were in their seed-stage.
Along with a workshop on digital marketing by Mr. Srish Agarwal, on the last day of the Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp, the startups were taken to the NASSCOM warehouse, Kolkata where they got a chance to witness how the startups work on a day to day basis. In the end, Angels Eye, a start-up providing cyber security services, was awarded the winner of EAC on the basis of the investors’ evaluations.

Biz Tatva ‘18

The 3rd edition of its annual entrepreneurial fest, Biztatva was themed Reversing into Autarchy: To sacrifice a strong economy for a healthy environment or to risk vulnerability for a prosperous one? Participation from colleges like Singapore Management University, Christ University Bangalore, and IIT Kharagpur was witnessed, along with JDBI main campus, JDBI BBA, and Shri Shikshaytan College.

Investors and Institutions like Calcutta Angels, Unitus Seed Fund, The Indus Entrepreneurs and Founder Institute Kolkata, were present to give 16 potential Business Ideas from students across the country a chance to become a reality.

Biztatva’17 was graced by the presence of our esteemed guest speakers including Mr. Raghunath Medge of Mumbai Dabbawala and Mrs. Rashmi Bansal, author of ‘Stay Hungry Stay Foolish’. These two eventful days came to a successful end as St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata was declared the winner of Biztatva’17 followed by JD Birla Institute (BBA) who were the runner’s up. With the enthusiasm and excitement shown by every person, there’s only one thing the cell can say, there is no way, shape or form of autarchy, it just exists and we are all a part of it.

ENACTUS

Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress.

Amidst the precept of 'Seeking Opportunities, Taking Action and Enabling Progress, we at Enactus St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata, are a part of a global devout student fraternity that capitalizes on social entrepreneurship which is instrumental for invigorating the potential prowess across the forsaken segment of our society.

PROJECT SHUDDHI

Project Shuddhi endeavors to lighten the situation of the people in Uluberia, an area marred by poor water quality, by administering an innovative, affordable and eco-friendly solution. The beneficiaries imbibe diversity and are adept at carrying out manufacturing and distribution operations to dispense effective and patented water filters along with low-cost maintenance for the same. The project through its ambitious awareness campaigns strives to alter the plight of the people and make their lives better.

TALKING POTS

Project Kalakriti branded as Talking Pots strives to replace the bouquet gifting culture, restore the balance of flora and create environmental awareness amongst the urban population. Our beneficiaries are talented women who belong to the socially and financially oppressed strata of the society. The venture seeks to invigorate the pottery culture and empower women in the process. Imparting a vibrant face lift to the earthen pots, we hone their art skills and give them a platform for recognition.

OUTREACH

To inculcate increased sensitivity in the youth of today as also to harness their corporate potential we organize Outreach, an annual interactive session.

Backed by its resounding success, we hosted Outreach’18 this year with the theme Observe and reflect on ‘Normal is just an illusion' and our revered speakers Jilian Haslam, Jimmy Tangree and Arjun Puri presented their thoughts on it. Through this flagship event we endeavour to promote among the youth an all-encompassing take on entrepreneurship.

Participation from the members of EDC and Enactus, surpassed new boundaries in the last academic year. Networking sessions, national level competitions, seminars and lectures, and inter-college business plan face-offs were all a part of the bucket.

Having introduced two new events namely Workshops by EDC and Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp, it can be said that our e-cell has seen rapid growth over the past year with many more projects in the pipeline. We have improved our network by including organisations such as Headstart, Nasscom and Toastmasters and we continue to grow and learn with every passing year.

As the Cell establishes a better foot-print nationally, it expects to increase its participation even more in the coming years and provide better network and opportunities for its student start-ups to connect and grow.
