A high level Visit of UK Universities delegation to St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata today.

A UK Universities delegation Visit to St. Xavier’s College. A high- level delegation of educationists from leading British universities was hosted by Fr Dominic Savio, Principal of St. Xavier’s College. The visit focussed on exploring the possibilities of quality international research collaboration, and student and faculty exchange programs with the college. Part of a larger delegation currently visiting India, the team engaged with the college in discussions to explore international opportunities in research, Consortia Approaches to Education, and Transnational Education with particular emphasis on Joint Degree programs, Teaching programs, and development of curriculum reforms. A briefing about the college’s academic and research and collaborative programs opened up questions from the delegation about specifics regarding areas of collaborative research, possibilities of dual degree and twinning programs with British universities, and exchange programs and opportunities. They expressed special interest in the in the rural campus that St. Xavier’s has set up at Raghabpur to empower and uplift rural communities and to reach education to the underprivileged and marginalised. The college expressed keen interest in the Turing Scheme, a UK government initiative to offer British students opportunities to study short mobility courses abroad. Through faculty and institution interactions, flexible programs can be developed to bring students to the college in mutually discussed and agreed areas of study, research and even community service. The meeting ended on a positive note with the consensus that there were areas of possible alignment and that the discussions could be taken forward by setting up meetings of the college with British Universities and faculties to identify potential collaborations and the possibility of dual degree programs.
