After a successful term of 2016-17, the Hindi Literary Society commenced its work this year towards promoting the Hindi language and culture, and making it more popular among the students of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. On 23rd August, 2017, it organized Aamna Saamna, a Hindi debate competition, which witnessed great number of participation from all the years, especially from the newly arrived students of the college. On 14th September, 2017, Hindi Literary Society organized Hindi Diwas, an intra-college cultural fest which included plethora of events and also experienced high participation from the students of college, with Poetry Recitation being the most stand-out event. Also, Hindi Diwas gave us an opportunity to come across the love for Hindi language that the students had, which was clearly evident from their enthusiastic participation in the event. Then, on 9th and 10th of March, 2018, came the society’s flagship event, Vividha’18. It turned out to be the biggest and the most successful event organized by HLS ever. It saw the highest number of participation as well as the highest amount of sponsorships ever raised by the Society, thereby making it possible for the event to be bigger than ever. Like every year, the mock Lok Sabha attracted the students hugely with a colossal number of registrations for the event but the event that stood out the most was the Guest Performance by Yahya Bootwala and Ramneek Singh from UnErase Poetry which stole people’s hearts with their patriotic as well as greatly emotional poems.
The basic requirement for any race or country or society, set up for development, is new technology, and that will be impossible without investment in science. Over history, most of the ideas leading to great inventions were born in the hallowed portals of educational institutes. The Science Association emphasises on the all disciplines of sciences, in a subtle and intellectually creative manner. As a newly popular society, it strives to engage students from all departments in organizing several events that aim at a holistic development of one’s creative as well as innovative faculties.
The whole of Science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking. – Albert Einstein
We try to encourage every student from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Multimedia and Mass Communication departments are welcome to be a part of this age old association and work to prove their skills.
The Science Association of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata takes pride in bringing science to life by bringing together students with a keen interest in science, and providing them with the platform to sharpen their skills.
It is a society representative of science students, which seeks to recognize an interest in scientific activities, and further nurtures this interest with the help of extra-curricular activities.
Established with an aim to foster interest for science, this association fuels the spark in young minds and exposes them to the subject in a collaborative learning environment. The society endeavours to bring together students sharing the common passion for curiosity, inquisition and innovation and strives for the progress and intellectual mastery of all.
The academic session of 2017-2018 witnessed the society’s annual event, ‘Sigma’ to test the curiosity, creativity and aptitude of the participants. These events spanned across the 8th and 9th of February, and they included Quiz, Coding and Encryption, Treasure Hunt, Gaming, Entrepreneurship, as well as several other exciting activities. The Science Exhibition of Sigma, EUREKA was a grand success, where students are invited to present working models from various disciplines of science to share their innovative ideas and inspire other young aspirants. The treasure hunt called Cyber Cipher has secured a different place in the heart of everyone. Every year, the event culminates with the launch of ‘Pebbles’, Science Association’s Annual Magazine. This year we have launched the magazine in soft copy version as we believe that with the soft foot being available it will have a better reach to all the people.
At the Science Association, we aspire to generate scientific attitude among students and to keep the students in touch with latest scientific knowledge, via the several events and seminars hosted by us. Science Association is a platform for students to learn more about their subject, as they are constantly provided with enriching learning opportunities.
This year we sent students to various Science exhibitions where they participated and showcased their skills. Science is incomplete without it’s practical applications. Two of these events were Rotary Innovation Festival by Birla Institute and Technological Museum’ and Bigyan O Projukti Mela by the Govt. of West Bengal’. In both these events students from our college have secured the first place.
